Elliot Albright is an adolescent with a father, the eponymous Luther, who is a rigid, secretive loner, unable to deal with people. Elliot`s testing of Luther involves the usual teenage rebellions, as well as a school assignment that requires the boy to probe into his father`s past to try to find out more about him. But Luther undergoes other tests as well--including marital troubles, an earthquake, and a threat to his profession as a civil engineer who designs dams. Twenty years later, Luther tells the story from hindsight, and with a sometimes harrowing candor. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. All rights reserved.
